Steve Ditko Poster Comic by javierhernandez Steve Ditko Poster Comic by javierhernandez
Brand new Poster Comic, this one featuring a bit of biography on comics great Steve Ditko. Ditko is the artist Stan Lee worked with on creating Spider-Man.

I've been planning to work on this for awhile now. I figured with the new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN movie released this week, now would be as good a time as any to put this in the public arena.

If you click on the image, it'll enlarge to a much more readable version.....

Wow this was actually very informative about a person I never even knew was responsible for the creation of Spiderman! I always just assumed it was Stan lee heh but now (thanks to your comic) I know there was another artist (Steve Ditko!) who I bet a large group of comic goers didn’t realize exists when they see Spiderman stuff and assume it just belongs to "marvel" and forget the artists involved in the first place! Great comic page :D

Well Stan was never the artist, he was the one who came up with the idea of the story while Ditko brought that idea he had to life, thus co-creating the character and his world. Stan Lee was always just the writer/editor in most of all the early Marvel comics.

Thank you! One of my hopes was that folks who weren't aware of Ditko's contributions to Spider-Man would get a new realization about the creation of the character. Stan Lee, while a great writer back in the day, left the entire visual process of the comic up to his collaborators.

Stan, sadly, has been part of the problem over the decades regarding who 'created' the characters.... :(

Lee did say that he would take credit for anything not entirely set in stone. I have to agree that he's part of the problem of why Ditko went into seclusion and refuses any interviews, autographs and appearances. I think both men are very set in their ways, too proud to be able to admit their own faults (mainly Lee on that one). It is obvious to me that Ditko isn't in things for the money considering he was offered numerous times a share of the profits of Spider-man amongst other things and has refused.

He is one of my favorite artists, I was sucked in with Doctor Strange, Hawk and Dove and Mr. A amongst others. Of course his individual stand alone art pieces are just as fantastic and amazing as anything else he's produced. Wonderful and detailed. Thank you for your poster :) it was nice to see.

Thanks for your comments, and I'm glad you enjoyed the comic.

Ditko's a solid artist, doing things his way and not asking for understanding or acceptance. He's just being himself. I admire the heck out of the man.

You and me both. I think the fact that he's still drawing and producing things at 84 shows that he is pure awesome. I love a lot of artwork and styles but his style is so distinct to himself, especially his hands, that it really pops out amongst other artists. As I said before, the details in not only his characters but the backgrounds as well is amazing. I really do at some point wish to meet him, if anything to shake his hand and thank him for all that he has ever done and continues to.
